Leading Appointments for St Mary's Theologians

Three academics from the Centre for the Social-Scientific Study of the Bible (CSSSB) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham have been awarded appointments at leading research bodies. Director of CSSSB Prof Chris Keith has been appointed to the Editorial Board of the Catholic Biblical Quarterly and the Journal for the Study of the Historic Jesus. Professor of the New Testament Steve Walton meanwhile has been appointed as the Secretary of the British New Testament Society. The society seeks to promote research of the New Testament and related writings, and Prof Walton will take up his post in September 2017. St Mary’s will host the annual meeting of this society in autumn 2018. Professor of Bible, Society and Politics James Crossley has been appointed Editor of the Journal for the Study of the Historical Jesus. Prof Crossley has also recently published important field research on the political post-Brexit views of the residents in Barrow in the journal, Relegere, which has since been featured in the North-West Evening Mail. Speaking of the appointments Prof Keith said, “St Mary’s international reputation for excellence in the critical study of early Christianity, its primary texts and figures, and the reception of those texts in modern society continues to expand, and this growth is clear in these appointments. Although primarily guild appointments, these nevertheless reveal the research environment in which we guide our undergraduate and postgraduate students toward their successes. Professors Walton and Crossley continue to contribute impressively to the growth of our research and pedagogical culture.”
