Politics of Money: The City and Westminster

Date: Tuesday 15th November, 6pm Location: St Ethelburga's Centre, Bishopsgate, London Book nowFinancial services started as a private transaction between a customer and a business which delivered a mutual benefit. Over time, policymakers and regulators have recognised that there is a public interest in those transactions and have  increasingly intervened in those relationships either to achieve a public policy objective or to regulate that private transaction. This has inevitably created tensions between customers, businesses and policymakers. This lecture explores how those tensions are reconciled to create an the equilibrium between personal interest, private profit and public policy and the causes and  consequences of unsettling that equilibrium. The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception. If you have any access requirements please contact research@stmarys.ac.uk.
