St Mary's University is excited to launch the Bakhita Centre for Research on Slavery, Exploitation and Abuse.
Formerly known as Centre for the Study of Modern Slavery, the Centre has changed its name to represent the broader scope of research and other activities undertaken by its members.
The Centre will be named after St Josephine Bakhita, who was trafficked into slavery from Sudan in the late 19th Century.
The formal launch is planned on the Feast Day of St Josephine Bakhita, Monday 8th February, with an opening speech by the Vice-Chancellor, Anthony McClaran.
The launch will feature input from practitioners, honorary research fellows and others who support the work of the Centre.
