Newman Conversations

Date: Friday 4th June 2021

Time: 2:30pm to 2:30pm

Venue: Online via Zoom

Join St Mary’s University Provost, Prof John Charmley, and EmeritusProfessor of the University of Cambridge, JohnMorrill, in our first 'Newman Conversations.'

This is a collaborative event between St Mary’s University and the Diocese of East Anglia. The conversation will be live streamed from Cathedral House, Norwich Cathedral.

St John Henry Newman and Cardinal Henry Manning were the two most notable Anglican converts of the nineteenth century. Where Manning supported the most far-reaching claims made for the role of the Papacy, Newman represented a more nuanced position.

In this talk, Professor John Charmley, will be talking with Professor John Morrill about their relationship and what it has to tell us about the first Vatican Council.
