We hang our hopes on love. It promises so much: fulfilment, redemption, a meaning for our lives; but for some love seems to fall short or be unattainable.
In this talk Dr Chris Campbell will draw on research from Psychology, Sociology and Biology to examine some of the beliefs around romantic relationships.
She will be looking across time, from the history of marriage right up to internet dating in the Tinder age, to show that while the journey to love might have undergone radical change, the destination is surprisingly eternal.
Dr Campbell will challenge some common misconceptions about relationships and show people how they can take lessons from research and apply them to their own lives.
This will be a fun engaging talk. Audience members will find out about cutting edge academic research and they’ll also learn practical tips, like the most attractive dance to do when they’re out clubbing, for example.
About the speaker
Dr Chris Campbell is an Associate Professor of Psychology at St Mary’s University. Her research and teaching is in the broad area of social psychology and in the last ten years has specialised in non-traditional intimate relationships and sexualised bodies.
Dr Campbell takes an inclusive, non-judgemental approach to researching people’s intimate behaviour. She has twenty years’ experience of public speaking and has appeared in national and international media, including Die Welt, The Independent and the BBC.
