John Henry Newman's Enduring Englishness

Date:
Tuesday 14th September 2021
Time:
6pm
Venue:
Online via Zoom

The first 'Newman Lecture' of 2021 will given by Dr Jacob Phillips (Director of the Institute of Theology and Liberal Arts) on 'John Henry Newman's Enduring Englishness'.

The Newman Lectures are a collaborative project between St Mary’s University and the Diocese of East Anglia. Please visit The Newman Lectures website for previous and upcoming Newman Conversations and Newman Lectures.

St John Henry Newman’s theology is often referred to as distinctly ‘English’, but there is little consensus on what this ‘Englishness’ might consist of, specifically. This lecture will discuss various answers to this question, and connect these answers to recent discussions in theologies of culture.
