Churchill’s kaleidoscopic exploration of how we make sense of what we know is brought to life in a timely revival ten years after its original production. Directed by Max Elton, whose previous Drama St Mary’s credits include Posh and The Government Inspector, this play for 100 voices takes on additional relevance as we collectively seek to understand the connective narrative and communication structures that might hold meaning in the post-pandemic world.

Conor has the same dream every night, ever since his mother first fell ill. But tonight is different. Tonight, when he wakes, there’s a monster at his window. It wants something from Conor. It wants the truth. Greenwich Theatre Artistic Director, James Hadrell, whose previous Drama St Mary’s credits include Cacophony and Faustus: That Damn Woman, makes a welcome return to marshal this thrilling ensemble adaption of Patrick Ness’ beautiful story of love, loss and the redemptive power of storytelling.

A leader lies murdered, a populace revolts, a country heads for war. Set in the age of 24-hour rolling news, this newly conceived version of the play explores the independence and culpability of the news making media at a time of national crisis. Who chooses their words carefully and whose words do we choose to hear?

Director Ricky Dukes, whose previous Drama St Mary’s production of Hamlet transferred to the Southwark Playhouse earlier this year, makes a welcome return to re-imagine Shakespeare’s great political drama for our own times.

Set against a background of global meltdown, unpredictable climate patterns and the horror of human trafficking. This fast-paced modern re-imagining of Shakespeare and Wilkins’ epic adventure play explores how the mythical past can, through the power of empathy and action, help reshape a revitalised vision of the future. Mitch Mitchelson returns to Drama St Mary’s to direct this propulsive production, inviting the audience to choose hope over despair, relationship over isolation, connection over silence.
