Heritable Genome Editing and Equality

Date:
Friday 3rd - Saturday 4th March 2023
Venue:
St Mary's University, Waldegrave Room

Heritable genetic modifications, which seek to change the genetic heritage of a human being and all their possible descendants, are increasingly being considered in biomedicine.

But a risk now exists that eugenic ideology may return and that the lives of some children may be considered as unworthy of life. Thus, it is necessary to examine whether such modifications may undermine the present equality and coherence of civilised society.

The Centre of Bioethics and Emerging Technologies at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, is delighted to host this international conference in partnership with the Scottish Council for Human Bioethics.
