A St Mary’s University masterclass day in liberal arts

Time: 10:00am to 2:30pm

Venue: St Mary's University, Twickenham

St Mary’s University’s School of Liberal and Creative Arts is delighted to welcome learners to their masterclass event on the 7th December.

Attendees will experience workshops in History, English Literature, Creative Writing and a session on the importance of the arts and humanities. The day aims to give students the opportunity to explore the humanities at university level and ask any questions they may have if they are considering a higher education pathway in one of these subjects.

This event is suitable for students currently studying liberal arts subjects at sixth form or college or for learners who are considering applying to liberal art subjects at university for September 2024 or 2025 entry.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, and students will be able to buy lunch in our canteen.

Timetable

The timetable for the event is as follows:

  • 10am – Arrival and welcome from liberal arts team.
  • 10:15am – Session One: ‘Why the Arts and Humanities Matter’. 
  • 10:45am – Break
  • 11am – Session Two: English Literature session: 'When beliefs are challenged', William Blake's Marriage of Heaven and Hell.
  • 11:45am – Campus tour
  • 12:15pm – Lunch
  • 12:45pm – Session Three: History session: 'Windrush: Stories Told, Lessons Learned'.
  • 13:30pm – Break
  • 13:35pm – Session Four: Creative Writing workshop.
  • 14:20pm – Any final questions and depart. 

Registration information

Students are welcome to register independently to attend this day.

If teachers or advisers wish to book a larger cohort, we recommend that learners still register independently so that they receive relevant information prior to the event and to help with attendance marking on the day.
