A St Mary’s Masterclass in Acting - 19th June

The Acting BA (Hons) team are excited to offer a masterclass on the 19th June 2024. Due to the interactive sessions on offer this opportunity only has 15 spaces available!

Spend the day with our experienced acting tutors learning the basics of theatre creation and screen acting! This event is suitable for first or second year sixth form or college students interested in pursuing a degree or career in creative production industries or theatre. For students preparing to write their university applications this year, this event is great to include as extra evidence on your personal statement.

Please note - due to the limited spaces available at this masterclass, please let us know if you can no longer attend to give another a student the opportunity to do so.

Timetable

  • 10am – Arrival and introduction
  • 10:30am – Session one - An introduction to camera.

Session one

This two-hour session introduces you to the fundamental principle of screen acting. Based on the idea that thought affects behaviour we explore how this relates to your screen acting. We use simple exercises to help you experience for yourself how your thought/s can help you in your acting and build your confidence working in front of the camera. The exercises will be recorded, and feedback given throughout the session.

We will touch upon: motivating the physical gesture, active listening, working in the frame

  • 12:30pm – lunch
  • 1:30pm – Tour of facilities and spaces
  • 2pm – Session two: Drama games, imagination and spontaneity.

Session two

This session aims to explore the use of games as a tool for development and discovery. Spend 2 hours with our experienced theatre practitioners learning to play without inhibition or fear. Explore how gameplay is used as the basis for cultural exchange, encouraging creative free expression, and developing ideas and scenes. A perfect introductory session for those who want to devise their own work or just want to add to their performance vocabulary.

  • 4pm – depart.
