Please note that we are unable to accept new bookings or defer your ceremony.

If you have not booked your tickets, you will be graduating 'in absentia'. No further action is needed.

All eligible graduands will receive their graduation invitation by email by early February. These webpages contain the same information as the invitation, along with notes for graduands and their guests on what to expect in each graduation ceremony and on the day.

Students receiving an award must book their own ticket (which is free of charge). In addition, you are eligible to purchase two guest tickets which are £20 each.

For more information on ticket booking, please visit our graduation tickets webpage

Graduation dress code

It is compulsory for graduands to wear academic dress for their graduation ceremony, and all graduands should wear smart formal wear for their ceremony.

In addition to academic dress, all graduands must wear smart formal attire for their graduation.

We warmly encourage students to wear their traditional and/or cultural dress to graduation if they wish to.

All graduands at the spring ceremonies will receive their certificates by post prior to graduation (by mid-March). Therefore, certificates will not be presented at the graduation ceremonies in March. If you have not received your certificate before graduation, please contact us at

If your permanent address (home address) has changed please let us know by emailing, so that we can post the certificate to the correct address.

Please note: that the name on your certificate will be the name that you registered with when you joined St Mary’s. If you want to check what name will be on your certificate, or if you have any other queries, please email

In order to receive your certificate you will need to ensure that you have settled any outstanding debts to the University, such as tuition, accommodation, and library fees.

Travelling to St Mary's main campus

St Mary’s is located on Waldegrave Road. The postcode for our main campus is TW1 4SX.

Parking for graduation is not available on the campus premises. If you are a blue badge holder, please indicate when booking your tickets or contact and we will endeavour to make parking available for you in the main car park by Main Reception, via the White Gates entrance to park. We would encourage, where possible, to travel by public transport for your journey to the ceremony.

The University is easily reached by South Western trains alighting at Strawberry Hill station, a five minute walk from campus. There are usually four trains an hour to/from Waterloo.

Student engagement fund for graduands

If you are an undergraduate student, and your declared household income is below £15,000 a year, and you do not receive any bursaries/scholarships from us, you are invited to apply for this award to help with graduation costs (paid as a non-transferable voucher). Please see our graduand fund page for more details.

The SU will be selling merchandise on the day on campus on the day of your graduation. Make sure you grab an official St Mary’s hoodie!
