Dean of Faculty/Director of Institute will determine resource requirements, taking into account overall staffing resources, costs and allocated budget. The below workload model (as offered by UCU) is presented as a guide for a 'typical' module over 12 weeks.
- Activity: No of hours
- Lectures: 24 hours
- Seminars/ workshop: 12 hours
- Tutorials: 20 hours
- Marking**: 20 hours
- Preparation*: 36 hours
- Total Time: 112 hours
*Preparation time is usually based on 1:1 prep/lecture and seminar time. This is variable however, for example if an individual has multiple seminars on the same topic less preparation time may be required.

Marking
A 12,000 word dissertation (based on UG Dissertation 40 credits) would typically require 12 hours supervision and 3 hours marking.
Casework and essays - typically the formula could be:
- 1,500 words: 33 minutes
- 3,000 words: 57 minutes
- 6,000 words: 105 minutes
The total time undertaken by a Link Tutor per trainee per visit, based on a minimum of two visits (please see below) is 6 hours 10 minutes. Please find a breakdown per trainee per visit below:
Face to face contact
- Reading lesson plan and pre organisation: 10 minutes
- Lesson observation: 1 hour
- Feedback to students (pre and post): 40 minutes
- Feedback with CTM (pre and post): 40 minutes
- Total: 2.5 hours
Additional tasks per trainee per visit
- Liaise with head teacher and school mentor: 20 minutes
- Complete observation paperwork (profile of professional standards): 40 minutes
- Scrutiny of students files: 20 minutes
- Scrutiny of students targets and evidence they are being met: 30 minutes
- Scrutiny of training log: 10 minutes
- Checking audit requirements are being met and required intervention where necessary: 20 minutes
- Analysis, discussion and action regarding profile children: 20 minutes
- Total: 2 hours 40 minutes
One off tasks per trainee during the course of the placement
- INSET visit (training of class teacher mentor) : 1 hour
- Discussion and agreement over the mid placement review report : 30 minutes
- Writing/discussion of the final report : 60 minutes
- Longitudinal tracking of both trainee and pupil progress : dependant on the student but between 10 – 30 minutes
- Liaise with NQTS (Ofsted requirements) : 20 minutes
- Total = 3 hours divided by 2 visits:1 hour 30 minutes
Grand total per trainee per visit: 6 hours 10 minutes
For clarity
- Initial partnerships: INSET + 3 visits
- Partnership Development schools and Associate Partnership schools: INSET +2 visits
If a cause for concern should arise, the Link Tutor is expected to undertake further visits as required.
Demonstrations or workshops: based on a module requiring 90 contact hours, demonstrations are likely to account for 30 hours for a typical module and workshops 30 hours for a typical module.
Marking
Total time will depend on the number of students submitting course work;
A 12,000 word dissertation (based on UG Dissertation 40 credits) would typically require 12 hours supervision and 3 hours marking.

Typically a total of 21 hours per short course (dependent on short course requirements which vary). Payment for related preparation, delivery and marking time as required will be made.
