St Mary’s 24-hour Meeting Raises Money for Comic Relief

Staff at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham took part in a charity challenge to raise money for Comic Relief raising more than £1,250 so far.

Staff at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham successfully took part in a unique charity fundraising challenge, taking part in a unique 24-hour meeting to raise money for Comic Relief. St Mary’s School of Sport, Health and Applied Science organised the charity event to raise money for Red Nose Day, which took place on Friday 15th March. The event comprised of 24 one-hour meetings, 24 topics, agendas and minute takers. The meeting incorporated a range of dress codes, rules and regulations, with monetary or humorous forfeits for anybody who didn't follow the rules. Highlights of the event included a meeting based on game show ‘Just A Minute’ which included three people dressed as two gorillas and a banana attempting to talk on important topics such as ‘meetings’ and ‘getting ready for bed’. Senior Lecturer Rik Mellor who organised the event said, “We really had no idea what to expect during the preparation for this 24-hour meeting and I think attendees were cautious from previous experiences of long meetings. But, it was a wholly positive and funny experience for all involved and the 24 hours flew by, with some pretty surreal and hilarious memories to take from the event. “Thanks must go to staff from the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science for being brave attendees, but also to the very many supporting staff who made the event possible, lastly to those more sensible non attendees who gave input and donations. We have raised over £1,250 for Comic Relief with more to come we hope and we are already planning for Sport Relief 2014!” Donations are still being welcomed, you can donate on the Comic Relief fundraising page.
