Drama Professor Presents Play in House of Lords

Trevor Walker, Professor of Drama at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham recently enjoyed a successful evening at The House of Lords where he presented a performance of Nell Dunn’s Home Death. This is the first time a play has been performed at the Palace of Westminster and the event was attended by a number of Peers, together with the CEOs of Marie Curie Cancer Care, The National Council for Palliative Care, and Dignity in Dying. Following the performance there was a discussion about issues raised in the play concerning end of life care. Lord Falconer opened the debate, which was chaired by Baroness Joan Bakewell, by introducing his proposed bill on assisted dying. A number of differing views were expressed by those present, but all agreed that there should be more of a public focus on end of life issues, and more resources put into end of life care.
