St Mary’s to Host Launch of the Biography of Dame Hilda Bynoe

Monday 30th September | St Mary’s University College, Twickenham is to host a launch event for a new biography of Dame Hilda Bynoe.

This Monday 30th September, St Mary’s University College, Twickenham is to host a launch event for a new biography of Dame Hilda Bynoe who was the first woman Governor of Grenada in 1968. The Governor’s Story, an authorised biography by Prof Merle Collins (University of Maryland), will be officially launched by the High Commissioner of Grenada during this celebratory event which is being held in the University College’s Waldegrave Drawing Room. Co-organised by publishing house Peepal Tree Press, the event will see guests welcomed by St Mary’s Senior Lecturer Sally-Ann Richards, along with High Commissioner for Grenada at the Court of St James’s His Excellency Mr Joslyn Whiteman, and the sister of Dame Bynoe, Baroness Howells of St David’s. This will be followed by a reading from the book by Prof Collins and a personal book signing. The Governor’s Story is a contextualised and reflective biography of Dame Bynoe who was appointed as Governor of Grenada in 1968. She was the first woman Governor in the British Commonwealth and the first native Governor of Grenada. The event begins at 6.30pm at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus and is open to members of the public.
