An athlete that trains at St Mary’s University, Twickenham as part of the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Dom Harrington will be competing in the Snowboarding Halfpipe event at the Winter Games, which is being hosted by Russia from 7th-23rd February, and used the facilities at the St Mary’s Clinic to help recover from an ankle injury in the run up to the competition. Rory Brown, the Physio and Clinical Manager at St Mary’s Clinic, assists Dom with his physiotherapy treatment while Dan Safdari, also from the clinic, is his strength and conditioning coach. Dom has won the British Halfpipe Championships four times but will be making his Olympic debut at the Games. The TASS is a government funded programme that helps further and higher education institutions support top British athletes, by helping them balance their studies and training. St Mary’s is one of the 13 accredited institutions that deliver the core services, which include physiotherapy, lifestyle mentoring, and strength and conditioning.
