St Mary’s Hosts Teaching and Learning Excellence Workshop

The Academic Affairs department at St Mary’s University, Twickenham recently hosted the first in a new series of Teaching and Learning Excellence workshops

The Academic Affairs department at St Mary’s University, Twickenham recently hosted the first in a new series of Teaching and Learning Excellence workshops for staff. Led by the former Professor of Educational Development of Birmingham City University, Alan Mortiboys, the interactive workshop looked at components of inspirational teaching, such as focusing on students and their learning and the teacher’s mindfulness of their own experience in the classroom. More than 30 members of staff attended the event, which gave them the opportunity to discuss teaching methods. St Mary’s Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator Stephen Scott said, “The workshop was a huge success. It was pleasing to see so many colleagues able to attend and engage in vibrant and interesting discussions. Feedback from colleagues was highly positive, with many commending the thought-provoking nature of the session and Alan’s relaxed delivery style. “We were delighted that Alan was able to attend and begin our series of Teaching and Learning Excellence workshops in such a positive manner.” The Teaching and Learning Excellence workshops take place several times during each academic year and are open to all members of staff at St Mary’s. Sessions aim to provide professional development opportunities for staff on specific aspects of teaching and learning, using respected external speakers.
