Image: 28 May 2014 SHARE The Centre for the Social-Scientific Study of the Bible at St Mary’s University, Twickenham is to host a conference exploring the conception and significance of ‘evil’ in Second Temple Judaism and early Christianity on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th May. More than 50 international biblical scholars will gather at St Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus to present research at the two-day conference including academics from the University of Aberdeen, University of St Andrews, Kings College London and George Washington University, among others. The conference will also welcome New Testament Scholar and Historian Prof Dr Loren Stuckenbruck (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, München) who will deliver the keynote lecture discussing his research, ‘How Much Does the Christ Event Solve? Evil in New Testament Theology and Its Relation to Jewish Theology’. St Mary’s Centre Director Prof Chris Keith said, “We are incredibly honoured to welcome Prof Stuckenbruck and these other world-renowned scholars to St Mary’s University in order to discuss the important topic of ‘evil.’ This conference is part of our strategic aims to lead the way in biblical scholarship and also make that scholarship available to non-specialists. Thus, we welcome everyone to attend.” Papers presented at the conference will also be published by Mohr Siebeck in 2015 in the Wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen zum Neuen Testament monograph series. The Centre for the Social-Scientific Study of the Bible was launched in 2013 as a way to foster Biblical Studies research in the UK and internationally and regularly holds conferences and seminars with national and international scholars. Tickets for the conference are still available and cost £65. For more information and to book your place please visit the Centre website. SHARE
