Success for St Mary’s Strength and Conditioning Students

St Mary’s University, Twickenham undergraduate student Eren Oguz becomes the British under-23 Powerlifting Champion.

It has been a successful month for Strength and Conditioning Science students at St Mary’s University, Twickenham after current undergraduate Eren Oguz became the British under-23 Powerlifting Champion. Eren recently won the 2014 Powerlifting Championships, which took place at Moulton College in Northamptonshire, breaking two British records in the process. During the competition he lifted 100kg in the Squat, 75kg in the Bench Press and Deadlifted 187.5kg (British record), totalling 362.5kg which is also a British record. What’s more, four current students and alumni from the postgraduate programme were nominated for the UK Strength and Conditioning Association’s (UKSCA) Richard Holmes Emerging Strength and Conditioning Coach of the year award. Current students Alex Adams and Katie Parker, along with graduates Jonathan Harris-Wright and Emily Cushion, were all nominated for the award by the department in recognition of their outstanding promise, dedication and passion for their new career.
