A former student at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has been nominated for two awards at the 2014 Richmond Business Awards which takes place on Friday, 17th October. The annual Richmond Business Awards is hosted by the Richmond and Twickenham Times and the Richmond Borough Chamber of Commerce. It aims to honour the achievements of the borough’s most successful businesses. Melanie Taylor, who graduated in Creative and Professional Writing with Media Arts in 2009, has been nominated for two awards following her success last year winning the ‘Commended Best New Start Up Award’, which recognises businesses that have been launched in the last two years. Inspired by her degree work, Melanie created Little Star Writing as a way to teach creative writing to children. Using a series of games, activities, competitions and group work, Little Star Writing encourages students and helps them to advance their writing skills in a fun and relaxed environment. Melanie commented, “Since winning the award last year the company has continued to expand very quickly, and we have launched workshops in several new schools and venues across the Richmond Borough. We've also held workshops in International British Schools around the world, held a LSW Literary Festival for 400 families at Richmond Theatre, and we are in the process of expanding to other areas of the UK.” You can vote for Melanie’s business online at www.richmondbusinessawards.com. All votes  must be made by 9am on Monday 15th September.
