Dr Keith Hopper, Research Fellow in the Centre for Irish Studies at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, has been invited to give a guest lecture at Charles University in Prague on Thursday 30th October. Dr Hopper is currently editing a book on Irish writer and filmmaker Neil Jordan, who will be the topic of discussion in the Imagining Otherwise: Neil Jordan’s Troubles Trilogy lecture he will deliver at the Centre for Irish Studies at Charles University. He will also be contributing to a cabaret event, An Evening with The Third Policeman, to help mark the publication of the Czech translation of Flann O’Brien’s masterpiece, The Third Policeman. Třetí strážník, has been translated by Prof Ondřej Pilný, Director of the Centre for Irish Studies at Charles University. Dr Hopper, who is a recognised authority on Flann O’Brien having written and co-edited a number of books on the Irish novelist, said, “It is always a pleasure and a privilege to visit friends and colleagues at the Centre for Irish Studies in Prague. I am especially pleased to be able to help launch Ondřej Pilný’s translation of The Third Policeman. “Long before Flann O’Brien was fully appreciated in Ireland he had a cult following in Central Europe, so this event is more of a homecoming than a departure.”
