St Mary’s Hosts Law Careers Forum

Students on the Law programmes at St Mary’s University, Twickenham heard from a specially invited panel of speakers at the Careers Law Forum.

Students on the Law (LLB) and Business Law programmes at St Mary’s University, Twickenham had the opportunity to find out what it is like to practice law from a specially invited panel of guest speakers at the Careers Law Forum on Tuesday 14th October. The inaugural event, which was jointly hosted by St Mary’s Law programmes and the Careers Service, attracted more than 70 students and speakers from across the legal profession. Practitioners including CEMEX UK General Counsel Jason Smalley, Family Law Solicitor Reena Ghai, and former Criminal Barrister Tim Horgan shared their experiences of working in Law as well as providing tips on how to develop a legal career. Students were also inspired by hearing the success of two St Mary’s Business Law alumni. 2010 graduate Rhoda Bryans, who is now training as a solicitor with Addleshaw Goddard and 2011 graduate Leyla Seghir, who now works for JP Morgan as Remediation Analyst, who spoke about their careers since graduating. Chartered Legal Executive Jennifer Eggington discussed the career of a legal executive, which is becoming increasingly popular as many legal executives undertake the same work as a solicitor and students can work towards the qualification immediately after graduating. The forum concluded with final year Law (LLB) student Nerys Willaims, who discussed her experience of the Work Based Learning accredited module, offered to final year students, as well as the importance of networking within the profession.
