St Mary’s Academic Wins BASES Applied Practitioner Award

Academic Director for Research at St Mary’s University, Twickenham Dr Charles Pedlar has been awarded the BASES Applied Practitioner Award for 2015.

Academic Director for Research in the School of Sport, Health and Applied Science (SHAS) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham Dr Charles Pedlar has been awarded the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Applied Practitioner Award for 2015. The award acknowledges outstanding and innovative service delivery in the sport and exercise sciences from BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientists. The award is judged on examples of a practitioner’s experience in providing science support services to client groups and an evaluation of a practitioner’s philosophical approach, problem solving skills, professional development, and self-evaluation skills. Dr Pedlar said of the award, “I have been privileged to work with some incredible athletes over the years at St Mary’s in the Centre for Health, Applied Sport and Exercise Science (CHASES) and through our high performance partners.” “It is always very difficult to quantify the impact that we have as practicing sports scientists, both in contributing to enhancing performance, but also in protecting athletes from injury and illness, and the work can go unnoticed so it is fantastic to be recognised with this award.” Charlie has worked at St Mary’s since 2001, joining SHAS 2009. He is the Director of CHASES and the Academic Director for Research in SHAS.
