Drama St Mary's Students Work with Award-Winning Playwright Peter Cox

Eight Drama students from St Mary's University, Twickenham have been offered the unique opportunity to work with award-winning playwright and screenwriter Peter Cox MBE. The students discovered the opportunity having met Peter at a Careers and Drama Networking Event which took place last semester. Some of the students have also incorporated the opportunity into a work placement, which will count towards their degrees. Peter is directing The Infinite Bridge at the Britten Theatre, London and the students are working on costume and design, lighting, sound, and stage management for the production. The Infinite Bridge is a cross-disciplinary theatrical show that uses orchestral music, live performance, and dance, which all interact with innovative digital design, projection, and live-streaming technologies. Peter, who participated in over 80 productions whilst studying at St Mary’s, said, “I wanted to give something back to St Mary’s having studied here and this has given me the opportunity to work with a range of young people from St Mary’s who put their heart and soul into their work.” “This group of students speak the same language, contribute to the overall St Mary’s ethos and work well together simply because they are St Mary’s students. I'm sure that the fact that they have worked together before will really strengthen them as a team which in turn will strengthen our whole team.” The production premieres on the 5th May as part of The Royal College of Music's Great Exhibitionists series and the Network Performing Arts Production Workshop 2015. Drama St Mary’s student Lauren said, “The Infinite Bridge is a very unique show which makes it challenging, exciting and terrifying to work on all at once. It's a fantastic opportunity to not only get a foot in the door but to also gain valuable experience working on a show in the real world. My first lighting meeting was really exciting as I discussed ideas with another member of the team and my ideas were enthusiastically embraced.
