Mo Farah Foundation Scholars at St Mary's Celebrate Athletics Success

Mo Farah Foundation Scholarship athletes recently met with the Foundation and members of the Senior Management Team at St Mary’s University, Twickenham.

Athletes that are supported by a Mo Farah Foundation Scholarship at St Mary’s University, Twickenham met with the Foundation and the University over lunch on the 6th May. The athletes were able to celebrate and discuss their training progress as the outdoor competition season begins. The athletes were also able to report back on the recent Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) high altitude training camp in Font Romeu, France. During the lunch, Director of Sport St Mary’s Andrew Reid-Smith introduced the athletes before St Mary’s Vice-Chancellor Francis Campbell gave a speech to recognise the pride that the University has in its association with St Mary's alumnus Mo Farah and the important role that the scholarship programme has to play in the development of future athletic talent. Development Manager at the Foundation Jerome Albarus also spoke on the work of the foundation and its short and long-term goals. A number of the athletes competed at the BUCS Outdoor Championships over the recent bank holiday weekend, with Amy Griffiths winning Gold in the women’s 1500m and Michael Callegari winning the Bronze in the men’s 5000m. Andrew Reid-Smith said, “Mo was the first Athlete on the endurance programme at St Mary’s. He has developed into the best GB distance runner of all time and we are delighted to be working with his Foundation to support the development of talented young athletes.” The Mo Farah Foundation Scholarship is an initiative that sees promising young GB athletes supported through advice, guidance, and with finances to help them to fulfil their potential. St Mary’s is currently one of only two universities in the UK to offer the scheme, which is now in its second year.
