Leading theologian the Right Reverend Roderick Strange is hosting an event at St Marys University, Twickenham to discuss his new book John Henry Newman: A Portrait in Letters. The event will be a chance to learn about the influences on Cardinal Newman’s life and work. The selection of letters provides an insight into who the Cardinal was and reveal some of his lesser-known aspects. This assessment of his correspondence and life experiences is an important contribution to our understanding of Newman’s theology, and as Newman himself noted, 'the true life of a man is in his letters'. Mgr Strange is a Visiting Professor at St Mary’s University and was previously Rector of the Pontifical Beda College in Rome. He is also an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has published numerous books and articles on pastoral and catechetical subjects with a particular focus on the life of Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman. Cardinal John Henry Newman was arguably one of the most influential theologians of the 19th Century. Mgr Strange’s new book looks behind Newman’s theology to offer new insight into his personal life through the lens of his written correspondence with friends and colleagues, which totals 32 volumes. The event is open to the public and will take place at St Mary’s on 11th November at 6.30pm. For more information please contact Harkirat Assi harkirat.assi@stmarys.ac.uk
