Shortlist Announced for Celebrating Young People Awards

Nominations for the Celebrating Young People Awards have now closed, the deliberation panels have met and the shortlists for each award have now be announced. The awards, now in their second year, are powered by Million Minutes in partnership with St Mary’s University, Twickenham. The awards panels received over 200 nominations from across the Catholic Community in England and Wales, and they were particularly impressed by the quality, breadth and diversity of the nominations. The panels were made up of distinguished experts with experience in each area and expertise and passion for Catholic Social Teaching. Each panel was inspired by the amazing social action undertaken by the nominated young people. Each of the six-award categories has a shortlist of six incredible young people and are made up of both individuals and groups. The CYMFed Award for an inspiring youth leader and the Pope Francis Award do not have shortlists. Both of these awards will be announced at the awards ceremony. CEO and Co-Founder of Million Minutes Danny Curtin said, “Young people are amazing. They are doing incredible things: supporting their friends, transforming their local community, making a positive difference. The Awards recognise the enormous, often unseen work young people do to make our communities and our world a better place, and hope to inspire others to do the same.” The complete shortlists can be viewed on the Million Minutes website. The award nominees will attend a special ceremony at the Barbican Centre in Central London on 19th July, which will feature special guests St Mary’s Chancellor Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Baroness Sheila Hollins, Baroness Susan Williams and St Mary’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise Rt Hon Ruth Kelly.
