St Mary's Gains ActiveIQ Accreditation for Three Short Courses Programmes

The Centre for Short Courses and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has gained accreditation from ActiveIQ for three programmes.
  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (GYM)
  • Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training
  • Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral
ActiveIQ are one of the UK’s leading Awarding Organisations for the Active Leisure, Learning and Wellbeing Sector. An awarding organisation recognised and regulated by Ofqual, ActiveIQ designs qualifications that support clearly defined career pathways. St Mary’s are adopting a blended learning approach to these courses and their first seven day course - ActiveIQ L3 Personal Trainer course – begins on Wednesday 8th June and incorporates e-learning for the anatomy and nutrition elements as well as face-to-face practical sessions. Administrator for the Centre for Short Courses and CPD Liz Everett said, “Because students will have access to the e-learning resources they will spend less time on campus.  Our hope is that this allows students greater flexibility regarding their time management and the overall pace of the theory element.  In addition, we will include an optional revision day for students to attend so that they may come and ask questions or go over anything they haven’t grasped.” The new Active IQ award has been introduced following feedback from students and lecturing staff requesting more practical content, blended learning and a simplified portfolio. Students will be given access to the e-learning resources prior to any face-to-face sessions so they can study at home ahead of the practical sessions, which take place on the St Mary’s campus in Twickenham. The Short Courses team believe this will greatly enhance the overall student experience.
