St Mary’s Scholar Named England Women’s Rugby U20s Captain

A second year High Performance Scholar and Strength & Conditioning Science BSc student at St Mary’s University, Twickenham has been made captain of the England Women rugby U20s team.

Emma Uren, who plays for Saracens Women, was named as captain of her country’s U20 team for 2018 ahead of a double header against France by head coach Jo Yapp.

Emma won her first U20s cap last year and lead England to a 27-20 win in Lille on 24^th February, which was the first time the U20 women’s team had ever won away in France.

The return match takes place on Saturday 17^th March at Basingstoke Rugby Football Club (RFC) as Emma, who plays as a full back but can also fill in at centre back or as a winger, looks to guide her team to a double over their neighbours across the Channel.

Emma said, “It’s a great honour to captain the U20’s side and I am very excited to be back out there with the team.” 

Sports Development Manager at St Mary’s Lisa Cafferky added, “It’s a wonderful achievement for Emma to captain her country to an historic win against a French side that were unbeaten in the last 13 games. Emma is a fantastic role model and her selection as captain illustrates her outstanding talent, dedication and leadership skills. We wish her and the England team the best of luck in the return fixture.”
