Success for St Mary’s Alumna at World Athletics Championships

Alumna of St Mary's University, Twickenham (SMU) Adelle Tracey broke a Jamaican national record en route to becoming World Athletics Championship finalist, and semi-finalist, in the women’s 800m and 1500m events respectively.

Since graduating from SMU, Adelle has continued to train with the University's Endurance Performance Centre (EPC) under coach Craig Winrow. Competing in the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Adelle Tracey ran a 1:58.41 PB in the 800m Final to finish among the top 8 athletes in the world.

Adelle, who also competed in the 1500m broke a Jamaican national record which stood for over 20 years, running 3:58.77 to finish a semi-finalist in the event.

Commenting on Adelle’s success Craig Winrow said, "Adelle's performances at the World Championships were amazing. To end the week with 3 PBs and a National Jamaica record over the 1500m and to also make the final of the 800m is a testament to the hard work and dedication she has to the sport. I hope this inspires other EPC athletes to future success".

The St Mary's EPC is an endurance running programme that supports, challenges and develops athletes. Its members include St Mary’s students, alumni and senior international athletes. In 2022 St Mary’s became an England Athletics affiliated Talent Hub.
