St Mary’s Athletes Perform Well at British Athletics Cross Challenge

Athletes from the Endurance Performance Centre (EPC) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham have made their mark on this year’s British Athletics Cross Challenge in Liverpool.

Athletes from the Endurance Performance Centre (EPC) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham have made their mark on this year’s British Athletics Cross Challenge in Liverpool.

Henry McLuckie, a current EPC student athlete, finished 18th overall in the Senior Men's race and 5th in the U23 category. This performance earned him a place on the Great Britain team for the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Brussels on December 10.

Izzy Fry, an EPC Alumni athlete, also qualified for the GB team, finishing third in the Senior Women's race.

Another EPC Alumni athlete, Jack Rowe, finished third in the Senior Men's race, earning an automatic spot on the GB team. However, Jack opted not to compete at the European Championships.

Other notable EPC athlete performances include Joe Wigfield's 14th-place finish in the Senior Men's race, Ellis Cross's 27th-place finish in the same race, Sarah Astin's 18th-place finish in the Senior Women's race, Rebecca Murray's 31st-place finish in the same race, Megan Gadsby's 33rd-place finish in the Senior Women's race (8th place U23), Becky Briggs's 47th-place finish in the Senior Women's race, Kate Estlea's 49th-place finish in the same race, and Katie Hughes's 50th-place finish in the Senior Women's race.

In the Junior Women's race, EPC student Pippa Roessler finished 26th, while EPC student Hannah Clark secured 40th place.

Sam Charig, an EPC student, also performed well, finishing 8th in the Men's Short Course.

EPC coach Craig Winrow said “It was a great day for EPC athletes with lots of positive performance. We wish Henry and Izzy all the best for the European Cross Championships this weekend.”
