Headteacher approval form for the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination

An experienced member of staff is required to act as mentor to the SENCo during the programme.

The specific responsibilities include:

  1. Ensuring that the applicant can undertake a range of activities required of the qualification such as: arranging observations; attending relevant meetings and completing an action research study in school.
  2. Regularly reviewing, with the SENCo, evidence of learning objectives being met in school and acting as a witness to signing off the Learning Outcomes Log.
  3. Liaising with the applicant and/or the Programme Tutor should any queries/difficulties arise during the programme.
