National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ)

NCTJ accredited course logoProfessional accreditation

The National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) is the leading training provider for the journalism profession in the UK.

In 2010, our Masters programme was the first Sports Journalism course in the UK to be accredited by the NCTJ . Our students are frequently shortlisted for their national awards and our alumni have won their sports journalist of the year award; including Max Freidrix in 2017, Matt Horsman in 2018 and Daniel Gallan in 2019.

We have embedded the the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism into our curriculum. So, you will sit their exams alongside your course work. Our students can therefore graduate with TWO qualifications: a Masters Degree and an NCTJ Diploma in Journalism.

The overwhelming majority of our students achieve the NCTJ Gold Standard.

In 2021, St Mary's University was ranked by the NCTJ as the top performing postgraduate journalism training programme in England. Check out their league tables!
