Max worked for ten years as a journalist and writer in Italy, Germany and Venezuela before his interest in migration and youth culture led him back to university to undertake a PhD at the Centre for Transcultural Research and Media Practice, Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland.
Max holds a First Class honours degree in political science at the University of Padova, Italy. He teaches on the module Sport, Globalisation and the Media. His first book, The Balotelli Generation, examines youth, football and identity in Italy. He followed this up with a study of sport, migration and culture in Ireland. Alongside his academic work, Max is an award winning travel writer in his native language, Italian. He has published the diary of a solo cycling trip through Patagonia (Patagonia Controvento, Patagonia against the wind, 2006) and a travel novel on Berlin (La bici sopra Berlino, The bike over Berlin, 2009).
