In the early 1980s Nick spent two years in Tanzania through Voluntary Service Overseas, lecturing in accounting, management and other subjects – mainly in Swahili, at a Conference and Training Centre in Dodoma.
He then worked in finance roles mainly in the international aid area of the charity sector with 12 years for each of Oxfam and Save the Children. During this time he was also Chair of the Charity Tax Group for six years.
Since then Nick has worked part time for the Arvon Foundation - a charity which runs residential creative writing courses, and Friendship Works – a child mentoring charity. He currently works part time for Age UK Lewisham and Southwark. He volunteers with the Charity Tax Group, is Trustee and Chair of the Finance Audit and Risk Committee of the Multiple Sclerosis Trust, and is Chair of the Trading Subsidiary at the Friars Aylesford.
