Degree studied: Psychology

I chose to study at St Mary’s as the timetable of the psychology degree allowed me to work alongside my studies as a mature student. Additionally, the Strawberry Hill campus is a beautiful setting, which helps to manage the demands of academic study.

I thoroughly enjoyed studying for my psychology degree at St Mary’s and it provided me with a strong foundation to pursue further academic study and a career in applied psychology.

The classes on research methods and statistics and the emphasis on critical evaluation and the scientific method throughout all teaching provided me with the skills and mindset to undertake postgraduate study. In particular, the high level of independence and support I was given in choosing and completing my dissertation research project was exceptional.

Optional modules in political psychology, critical health psychology and work experience modules allowed me to develop my applied psychology skills and interests, supported by lecturers who were accessible in a way that is unique to the smaller and friendlier environment of St Mary’s.

I am currently training as a Clinical Psychologist, which involves the completion of clinical placements with different client groups (eg child and adolescent mental health and intellectual disabilities) alongside conducting thesis research. It was my aim to become a Clinical Psychologist when I applied to do a psychology degree and I feel studying at St Mary’s was fundamental in helping me achieve my goal.
