Magdalen Attwater - Head of Careers

At St Mary’s Monday to Friday

Magdalen has been working for St Mary’s since 2007 and also has experience of working in the Careers Services at King's College London and Royal Holloway, University of London.

She studied Information Systems and Management at Birkbeck, University of London and gained her PG Diploma in Guidance with the QCG at London South Bank University.

Magdalen has experience of management from the conference industry where she was responsible for large scale events in the UK and Europe in a previous role. She is also a fully qualified English Language Teacher with a Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults and has lived and worked abroad in Portugal, Spain, Brazil and Australia.

Anna Favalessa - Careers Consultant

At St Mary's Wednesdays and Thursdays

Anna is a Careers Consultant with nine years of experience, five of which have been based at St Mary's University. As part of her training she chose to complete the MSc in Organisational Psychology at Birkbeck, University of London studying part-time while working. Previously she worked for The National Trust in the Strategy Team and in a PR Company specialising in the Charity and Arts sectors.

Anna is the Careers Consultant for the School of Management and Social Sciences.

Vincent Potter – Careers Consultant

At St Mary’s Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays

Vinny has been a Careers consultant for more than 5 years. For the last 2 years he has been leading the careers provision at the Institute of Education, and has also worked at Queen Mary University of London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Vinny came to St Mary's after a varied career. After working as an Occupational Therapist within the NHS, he then moved to Pakistan and worked in health and development roles, as well as emergency relief work, teaching and project management. He then moved to Cameroon where he worked for an orphanage, the British Council and the British High Commission.

Vinny is the Careers Consultant for the School of Education, Leadership and Theology.

Joanna Pattison – Careers Consultant

At St Mary's Monday to Friday

Joanna has recently joined the Careers Service as a Careers Consultant. Previously, she worked in widening participation and improving access at the University of Leeds, where she led on outreach work with Further Education colleges in the Yorkshire and Humber region. She studied a BA in Chinese and Japanese at University of Leeds.

Joanna is the Careers Consultant for the Schools of Arts and Humanities and Sport, Health and Applied Science. 

Oby Oputa - Careers Consultant

At St Mary’s Monday to Friday

Oby comes with over 7 years’ experience in careers guidance and recruitment. He has worked for London College of Fashion (part of University Arts London) Prospects and A4e (welfare to work), supporting graduates, professionals and the long term unemployed into employment or change careers.

With an LLB degree in Law from Staffordshire University, Oby started his career in recruitment and account management before transitioning into the careers guidance sector. He is passionate about widening participation and supporting students develop their employability to achieve their potential.

Jane Angell – Careers Consultants

At St Mary’s Monday to Friday

Jane has recently joined the Careers Service as a Careers Consultant, having spent several years working in careers in the 16-19 sector. She has worked for the Ministry of Justice and the Home Office, including periods seconded overseas.

She studied for a BA in French at the University of Bristol, an MA in Buddhist Studies at the University of Sunderland, and has a B.Mus. and a PhD from Royal Holloway, University of London. 

Inís Nic Giolla Phadráig – Employer Engagement Officer

At St Mary’s Monday to Friday

Inis has been working in the Careers Service since 2014 and was previously the Careers Officer Coordinator prior to taking the role of Employer Engagement Officer. She is the first point of contact for all employer engagement activity on campus. Inis coordinated the Careers Shows in 2016 and 2017, as well as multiple Teaching Fairs and a Volunteering Fair which were held on campus. 

Inis is a recent graduate from the BA Theology programme and is currently studying a Master’s in Bioethics and Medical Law at St Mary’s. 

Matthew Dennis – Careers Office Coordinator

At St Mary’s Monday to Friday

Matt joined the Career’s Service team in January 2017 and is the first point of contact for students, graduates and staff who wish to visit the service. He is also responsible for marketing and resources within the Careers Service.  Matt graduated from St Mary’s with a degree in Media Arts and was heavily involved in multiple extra-curricular projects during his time at the University. Should you wish to use the service, access any of our careers resources or simply drop in for a friendly chat, do feel free to drop by. 

Edward de Quay – Caritas Development Worker

Edward works for Caritas Westminster. Caritas Westminster is the social action agency for the Catholic Church in the diocese of Westminster, and exists to support parishes in developing outreach projects.  In addition, it runs services for trafficked women, the Deaf Community and those with intellectual disabilities.

Edward is based in the Careers Office at St Marys, and develops volunteering opportunities for students and staff. Edward began working at St Marys in 2017, and has several projects in development, which will allow students to connect to the local community.
