The communications and marketing industries have grown rapidly in recent years, presenting a tremendous opportunity for graduates.

This unique course will teach you about the significance of data analytics and how it's reshaping media relations and marketing. You will learn about the ethical concerns around the use of 'big data', but also develop your own data research skills to create effective marketing campaigns across multiple media platforms.

You will learn about consumer behaviour, branding, customer relationships and digital communications. The degree will enable you to think analytically, strategically and ethically through a series of exciting practical projects that have been designed by industry professionals.

The Data Analytics and Marketing degree has been designed to reflect that data analysis is in particularly high demand in marketing. To specialise in this area, we offer modules in:

  • Predictive Analytics

About the Foundation Year

Our four-year degree programmes (including a foundation year) provide an alternative route to undergraduate study at university if you do not have the grades to access higher education in the traditional way.

On successful completion of the Communications and Marketing Foundation Year pathway you will progress on to the three-year undergraduate degree in Communications, Data Analytics and Marketing.

International requirements

Work placements

There is also the opportunity to undertake a work placement as part of your degree. The Centre for Workplace Learning offers work-related modules that can be embedded within your studies.

Most of the optional work placements take place in the Greater London area. Some might be in central London, but there are also a number of suitable Communications and Marketing organisations in west London.

How the degree is taught

Teaching methods

We use a range of teaching methods across all our courses. Most frequently used on this course is a series of one-hour lectures that are followed by smaller seminar discussion groups and practical workshops.

Film screenings, student presentations and guest lectures by industry speakers are also used. Field trips to relevant external organisations are also offered.

You will have access to regular one-to-one tutorials, notably when in the planning stages of essays and projects. You will be allocated dedicated project supervisors that you can use as a reference point and resource.

Most classes range from around 15 to 40 students. Seminars will have a maximum of around 30  students, but will usually be 20 or fewer. For some modules there will be large lecture cohorts of up to 190 students, with smaller seminar groups.

Independent study is a key feature of your degree and is crucial to furthering your knowledge.

You will receive your timetable a week before teaching is due to start at the latest.

Assessment methods

Each module is usually assessed through one written assignment and one practical assignment. You will also undertake your own research, give presentations, design and produce media campaigns.

Your final project can be either a written dissertation or practical-based assignment (such as a big data project and/or a multimedia marketing campaign). In the final stage of the course, we encourage you to take up a work placement that will count towards your final grade.

Additional costs

The degree provides essential learning resources via our Library and specialist equipment is available via our Mac suites and technicians. This is so that you don't need pay extra for these resources, though you may wish to buy some textbooks to have your own copies.

You might have to pay travel costs for transport to work placements. The University will generally try to reimburse public transport costs for field trips.
