Success for St Mary's Athletes in Great South Run

Athletes from the Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) at St Mary’s University, Twickenham delivered some fantastic results at the Great South Run with 11 runners in the top 30 on Sunday. Hosted in Southsea, Portsmouth, the Great South Run brings together some of the country's leading distance runners to compete across a 10 mile course. EPACC athlete Chris Thompson won the Men’s Elite race in a time of 47:23, 46 seconds ahead of second place EPACC athlete Andy Vernon. In total five of the top ten finishers were EPACC athletes, with Paul Pollock in fourth, Scott Overall in sixth and current Sport Science undergraduate student Petros Surafel in eighth. Other notable finishers include Joe Wade in 16^th and Tom Austin in 22^nd. Elsewhere in the Women’s Elite Race Lilly Partridge finished as the first placed Brit, fourth overall, and Beth Potter finished as the second placed Brit, fifth overall. Faye Fullerton also ran finishing in 16^th and current PGCE student Jo Harvey came 22^nd in a time of 1:00:13. Speaking of the Athletes’ success EPACC Centre Co-ordinator Craig Winrow said, “These were some great results for our athletes, it speaks to the quality of our athletes and the effort they put in that half of the men’s top ten and the top two female British athletes were EPACC athletes.”
