The two objectives from the Academic Partnership Strategy that will be addressed through the TNE Strategy are:

Develop new academic partnerships in at least four new international markets that strengthen SMU’s international standing
Support developments for St Mary’s to establish its first international branch campus in Dubai

St Mary’s currently has academic partnerships within Europe (in France, Italy, and Greece), as well as articulation arrangements outside Europe (in Thailand and Mauritius). The table below is not intended as an exhaustive list of potential new opportunities but sets out five regions and outcomes St Mary’s aims to achieve through its TNE offering. We will aim to establish large scale strategic relationships, involving multiple disciplines and collaborative activities, with a small number of partners in each region.

Africa – specifically Nigeria, Ghana, East Africa	New and strengthened relationships with Catholic institutions. Locally delivered or online/distance learning programmes that address in-region student demand particularly in education, business and health. Knowledge exchange opportunities for staff. Collaborative programmes that close local skills gaps and support curriculum development.
East Asia – specifically China	Develop presence and reputation, particularly in areas of expertise (sport and education). St Mary’s staff expertise brought to region through Foreign Cooperatively Run School model and flying faculty. Develop student mobility opportunities to St Mary’s in the UK.
South Asia – specifically India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand	Increased student mobility opportunities to St Mary’s in the UK. Locally delivered collaborative programmes that address in-region student demand particularly in business, technology and health sciences. Knowledge exchange opportunities for staff.
Europe – specifically Germany, Spain, Greece, Italy, Malta	New and strengthened relationships with Catholic institutions, particularly in Italy and Spain. Locally delivered collaborative programmes that address in-region student demand.
Middle East – specifically Dubai	Develop reputation, particularly in areas of expertise (sport and education) Physical presence through a branch campus. Academic activities delivered directly by St Mary’s, including staff expertise brought to the region through flying faculty Develop reputation in region.
