5: Clearing and adjustment

Not a UK/Ireland applicant? Please check our international application process.

Clearing and adjustment offer a final route to apply for a university course in the summer before your enrol.

Clearing is available to those who still do not have an offer to study from early July onwards.

You will be eligible to apply through Clearing if you have already applied through UCAS and fulfil one of the following criteria:

  • Received no offers
  • Declined all offers
  • Did not respond to your offers before your reply deadline
  • Did not meet the conditions of your offer
  • Declined a changed course/date of entry/point of entry
  • Submitted your UCAS application after 30th June

Adjustment is, in essence, the opposite of Clearing. The process allows you to switch to a different university or degree programme.

You will be eligible to use Adjustment if you're accepted onto your firm or insurance choice and its status is unconditional. Conditional offers update to unconditional once you meet the conditions of your offer (such as achieving the required results).
