Why study law at St Mary's?

At St Mary’s, law students benefit from unique opportunities, including placement modules at the Royal Courts of Justice and the Central Family Court, an experience exclusive to the university.

You’ll gain hands-on legal experience through the St Mary’s Law Clinic, working with leading firm Hodge, Jones & Allen to tackle real legal issues and support the local community. A permanent moot court is also being established on campus, providing a dedicated space for mock trials and advocacy practice.

All our law programmes are Qualifying Law Degrees, enabling you to pursue a career as either a barrister via the Bar Professional Training Course or a solicitor through the Solicitor’s Qualification Exam (SQE) route.

Why choose criminology?

Studying criminology at St Mary's, you'll learn from academics who are actively shaping national policy and practice through their research, putting you at the forefront of the field.

From your first year, you'll engage with professionals across the criminal justice system, charities, and local government, with work experience opportunities on real initiatives such as the One Stop Shop and the Youth Independent Advisory Group (YIAG). Dedicated workplace learning modules and an optional placement year between years two and three give you further scope to build your networks and gain sector-relevant experience.

Field trips to courts, prisons, and public exhibitions bring your learning to life, while the degree itself draws on content from across sociology, psychology, and law, broadening your perspective and enhancing your future career options.
