2. Gain unique experience as part of your course
We offer truly transformative experiences through placements and internships. Many of our degrees include placement modules or an optional placement year, giving you the chance to apply what you learn, gain industry experience and build your professional network before you graduate.
For some it might be highly subject-specific or required to progress into that career. For others it might be purely exploratory – to see if it’s a career you’d like to try. Everyone’s individual at St Mary’s and we’ll help you find whatever’s right for you.
"The hardest thing about working with placement students from St Mary’s has been choice. They’ve offered us a number of excellent candidates, and my only regret is that we couldn’t have worked with more."
Martin Ellis - Director at Team Umbrella Limited
3. Earn while you learn
Working part-time is a great way to earn money, meet people and build valuable experience while you study. We’ll help you find flexible roles that fit around your timetable, both on campus and in the local community.
- Part-time job fairs – meet employers looking for student staff
- On-campus jobs – from the refectory to Student Ambassador roles, and
- noticeboard – browse the latest jobs in the local community
- 1-2-1 support - for exploring options, job hunting and applying
Our students are consistently praised for their positivity, professionalism and people skills – qualities that make a real difference in any workplace.
4. Create a stand-out CV with the St Mary’s Award
Your time at St Mary’s is about more than what happens in lectures – it’s about developing the confidence, skills and experience that prepare you for whatever comes next.
The St Mary’s Award recognises the personal and professional development you gain through extra-curricular and community activities – like volunteering, part-time work, internships, or getting involved in student societies.
- Gain recognition for activities you’re already doing, like volunteering or paid work
- Develop confidence and understand how your skills are growing
- Broaden your experience, especially if you’re just starting out or facing barriers to opportunities
