The Institute of Education offers students vocationally relevant, professionally accredited, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in education-related disciplines and initial teacher training (ITT).

Students are taught by expert staff who research focused and/or specialist practitioners in education and ITT. We offer a range of outstanding programmes which are attractive to students and subsequent employers. They will develop vocational and transferable skills through academic study often complemented by work-based learning.

Undergraduate Programmes

Graduates on our BA Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the BA Primary Education (Work Based) with QTS (within this route applicants can also choose to follow the SEND specialism pathway, distinctive to St Marys) route follow a carefully designed academic and school-based programme to meet the requirements of the Teachers’ Standards as set out by the Department for Education. This leads to high employability rates as Newly Qualified Teachers.

The Foundation degree, Education in Context, is particularly suitable for those working in early years and primary school settings who are considering further academic qualification with QTS over time.

The Education and Social Science programme prepares students for work in a range of educational and social care settings in the UK and globally. Graduates from this programme are welcome to apply for PGCE Primary and Secondary ITT programmes.
