The Bakhita Centre workshop: Race Equality in Modern Slavery Research - Meeting the goals of the BASNET Action Plan

Workshop event in collaboration with AFRUCA/BASNET, University of Sheffield, and St Mary's Bakhita Centre.

2. Background – The BASNET Action Plan and the role of research,evaluation and data in the race equality challenge (Naeema Ahmed,BASNET and Neena Samota, St Mary’s University) 11.15-11.45am
3. Where is race and ethnicity in modern slavery research, evaluationand data? A brief review of the field (Dr Elizabeth Such and HabibaAminu, University of Sheffield 11.45am-12.15pm

4. The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy/Action Plan of theModern Slavery Policy and Evidence Centre (Niki Kalyvides ModernSlavery Policy and Evidence Centre 1-1.20pm
5. Meeting the goals of the BASNET action plan for research, evaluation and data, and elevating examples of good practice

Questions to address:
  • Do you have any examples of how race and ethnic equality, diversity and inclusion have been approached in the places you work or the work you do?
  • Do you have any ‘good practice’ examples?
  • Are the goals of the BASNET Action Plan realistic, achievable or not ambitious enough?
  • Is there anything missing?
  • What strategies, tactics and actions could we use to meet the race equality, diversity an inclusion goals of the action plan in research?
  • How can we mobilise or maintain momentum in the ambition for improved race equality in modern slavery research?
  • How can we be good allies and advocates?
