Were someone to ask about the saints of the home nations of the United Kingdom, only St David came from the nation he represents; St Andrew and St George from Palestine, and St Patrick was Romano-British.
St George was martyred for his faith refusing to worship the Roman Emperor in the last 3rd or very early 4th centuries. His cult embraces Christian Arabs and Muslims in Beit Jala, outside Bethlehem, and Druze and Christians in southern Lebanon. St George was adopted during the Middle Ages as the Patron of England after his adoption by the City of London.
Mass will be celebrated at 12pm on Tuesday 23rd April followed by traditional English lunch in the Refectory, roast beef and yorkshire pudding. If you would like to join in for lunch please contact the Chaplaincy.
