Triumphant Weekend for St Mary’s Athletes

Athletes from the Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham have recorded a great weekend for athletics.

It was a triumphant weekend for athletes from the Endurance Performance and Coaching Centre (EPACC) at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham after securing 10 medals in two major competitions. The Sainsbury’s British Championships (World Trails), which took place from 12th to 14th July in Birmingham, saw EPACC athletes secure nine medals including St Mary’s graduate Steph Twell who finished in first place in the women’s 5,000m. EPACC athletes also competed in the European U23 Championships, with current student Charlie Grice taking second place in the men’s 1500m and Zane Duquemin securing fourth position in the men’s shotput. British Athletics also named the 60 strong Great Britain Team for the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia on 10th to 19th August, which includes St Mary’s alumni Andrew Osagie (800m) and Mo Farah (5,000m and 10,000m). St Mary's Director for Sport Andrew Reid-Smith commented, "Our athletes competed well across the competitions and produced a strong set of results. Congratulations to Mo and Andrew for being selected for the World Championships, we look forward to seeing them compete and wish them every success."
