Patsy Burn, Drama St Mary’s Programme Director at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham recently co-led the Big Sing, a community singing project organised by Kingston Borough Council.
The day saw 12 local choirs take part in a mass singing event, which was led by Patsy along with fellow musicians Mary Bourne (Singing it Back), Simon Toyne (Tiffin School) and Max Barley (Thames Youth Choir). Choirs also performed at ‘pop-up’ events at busking spots across town and the day culminated with more than 200 singers performing songs learnt on the day in Kingston marketplace.
Patsy said, “Community singing is vital in any area and it is fantastic to be involved in an event such as this that promotes singing for health and well-being. It’s also a great opportunity to showcase the talents of local community choirs, which are healthy and thriving in the borough.”
