Last week, head teachers from Catholic sixth forms and colleges across England came together to discuss the changing landscape of education during a conference organised by St Mary’s University College, Twickenham.
St Mary’s annual Catholic sixth form and colleges conference is organised as an opportunity for school leaders to come together and discuss current issues in education. Entitled ‘Responding to Change, Facing the Challenge’, the day gave delegates the opportunity to consider the manner in which they are inhabiting the changing face of education, and how they might respond to the challenges with a Christ-centred view.
Discussion panels were held throughout the day, exploring a number of topics such as practical strategies in teaching sixth form religious education, identifying and supporting the ‘poor’ in the Catholic sixth form, and exploring the spiritual landscape in the sixth form common room.
Dr Maureen Glackin, Head of the School of Education at St Mary’s said, “It was delightful to spend the day with so many committed colleagues reflecting and discerning as to how faith informs the manner in which we realise our professional vocation as educators.”
