Community Irish Studies Courses Return to St Mary’s

A selection of courses exploring Irish history and culture is being offered to members of the public at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham.

A selection of courses exploring Irish history and culture is being offered to members of the public at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham. Following on from the successful community classes which ran earlier this year, the Centre for Irish Studies at St Mary’s is now inviting members of the public to enrol in the newly launched classes which will cover Irish History from 1949, Irish Literature and Drama from 1949, and an intermediate Irish language class. Starting from 16th September, the classes will run for 12 weeks and will enable members of the public to find out more about Irish culture. St Mary’s Irish Studies Programme Director Dr Ivan Gibbons said, “This is an opportunity for mature students thinking of returning to study to sample university education at St Mary’s. In particular, it is ideal preparation for joining our MA in Irish Studies this time next year.” Irish Literature and Drama will run on Wednesdays from 11am to 1pm and Irish History from 1 to 3pm on Fridays. They will cost around £265 for a 12-week course. The intermediate Irish language classes are being offered free of charge courtesy of funding from the Irish Government and will run on Tuesday from 2 to 4pm. For more information about the classes please contact Dr Ivan Gibbons on 020 8240 4081 or email ivan.gibbons@stmarys.ac.uk.
